India Washed Robusta - Kannagere Estate

Situated in the heart of one of India's premier coffee-producing regions, the Kannagere Estate in Mudigere, Chikmagalur District, Karnataka, boasts a rich history spanning over 70 years. The estate is under the ownership of Mr. Shirish, a third-generation grower with a deep passion for cultivating coffee. The soil on the estate is red loam with a pH level ranging from 5.8 to 6, and it receives an average annual rainfall of 2300 to 3200 mm, creating favorable conditions for growing both Arabica and Robusta coffee varieties.

The primary processing method for the coffee is wet processing, with a focus on selective harvesting to ensure that only fully ripened cherries are harvested. Harvesting is typically carried out in 3-4 rounds. The coffee is pulped using minimal water and modern de-pulper technology. After pulping, it undergoes natural fermentation for 18-22 hours in designated vats, followed by aqua washing under pressure to remove any residual mucilage. Finally, the coffee is soaked in clean water before moving on to the shade and sun drying processes.
